The BBC has been running a new series Cat Watch 2014, which started on October 7. There are three episodes, all of which have had their first run, but there are still re-broadcasts and the full episodes are available online in the UK. They are not, unfortunately, available in the US, so readers will need to check their local availability. There are a series of video clips from the series, each a minute or two long, that should be viewable from any location. Much of the film uses “cat cams“, miniature spy cameras attached to the cats, which have been used successfully before in cat studies and a previous BBC program (which we also noted here at WEIT).
Although the clips have embed codes, I can’t get them to work. However, if you click here, you will be taken directly to a full screen view of a clip from the “Cat Talk” episode– meowing (or miaowing, if you prefer). Speaking of talking, I couldn’t exactly place the presenter’s accent– does anyone recognize it? (She sounds like Emma Thompson to me.)

The presenter is Liz Bonnin.
Thanks– I looked her up. A Trinidadian-French Irish-from-Dublin moved to London 12 years ago accent!

How’d you ever miss that?
And there’s “Too Cute” in the U.S. http://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/too-cute/videos/too-cute-kittens-highlights.htm
The presenter has an Irish accent.
Her accent is a bit Irish.
As Heather said some time ago π
I like the meow of the black and white cat that appeared at the window. He sounds flat like a goat. Very cute. π
I love the nattering that cats make when they see some prey they want to go after but it’s a bit out of reach. Our cat likes to scan the ceiling for crane flies, mosquitoes, spiders and such delights.
Yeah, ours chirps back at birds.
They sound like a creaking rocking chair.
Yes, Liz Bonnin definitely has an Irish accent – Northern Irish I would say.
No, it’s a southern irish accent. Sounds like some sort of Dublin accent to me. Inside the Pale anyway.
It’s a bit softer than the good old Norn Oirish for sure.
I have a very good friend who sounds a lot like Ian Paisley, and has certain views about the Pope that fall into the same ballpark.
Liz Bonnin has a bit more of the lilt about her!

Episodes are available on youtube.com. Just search for ‘cat watch’ and at least episodes one and three will appear. Horizon episodes are generally available on youtube, sometimes several weeks after they air on the BBC but often within a week or two.
If I had no internet, I’d never have access to British TV. There should be a channel somewhere that is nothing but stuff narrated by David Attenborough.
This might also be of interest. Current series so might no be available certainly on BBC I player

Liz Bonnin, the presenter, is Irish, although she was born in France, and has a degree in biochemistry from Trinity College, Dublin. She is also a host on a very popular BBC science show for young people called ‘Bang goes the theory’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmH1-H76u7A
She’s also roving reporter-y type person for BBC’s Stargazing Live (which is generally worth watching if only to guess which pseudoscience will get insulted next).
Love the anti- astrology article!!!
