Today’s Daily News headline

Here’s the headline of that New York paper:

Moore is still contesting the election and demanding a recount, but I think the Senate Republicans are actually breathing a sigh of relief. They may have lost a seat, but avoided some nasty hearings, and they’ll probably reclaim that seat in a few years.

      Poor horse, to have such a horse’s ass riding on it😖 I suppose we can be thankful that Trump doesn’t seem to ride horses.

          Putin actually rides well — topless but well — and that annoys me to no end.

      Did y’all see Horse Twitter (apparently that is a thing) go to town on Moore’s awful horsemanship? Poor horse definitely deserves a break.

            This video saves me most of the effort, but none of the exasperation:

            But here are a few of my observations:
            1 The saddle doesn’t fit (tree looks too wide) and is mis-positioned;
            2 Brusquely tosses the reins over the horse’s head;
            3 Lets horse turn head to right* as he prepares to mount on left. Fortunately for Roy, someone steps in to callously hold the horse still;
            4 Severe bit with long shanks – act as fulcrum to multiply force from reins (you’ll see). Each 1” = x10;
            5 Puts right hand on cantle when mounting, necessitating snatching it away;
            6 Can’t pick up stirrup with his foot, must use hand;
            7 Leans far back in saddle, shoves feet forward, now way off-balance;
            8 Brutally yanks right rein to turn horse. Should apply left leg, open quietly with right rein. (Or neck rein, which Moore certainly does not know how to do);
            9 Hands are up and out, when they should be belly-button level and in. Also, hands should be c. 15º angle; Roy’s flop around between 45º – 90º. Elbows are doing the “chicken tonight” dance;
            10 Kicks way too hard. Horse then understandably lurches forward. Moore loses balance (surprise!), so he brutally pulls back on way too long reins (see 4 above) to stop horse — cuz this putz is already afraid of falling off two seconds in;
            11 Again kicking too hard to urge horse on, then continues to brutalize the horse’s mouth to stop horse from cantering as he inadvertently asked**;
            12 Nearly falls off to the left, but sadly for the horse, somehow stays on;
            13 Switches to one hand on rein Western Pleasure style, with the other hanging down to grip the imaginary riata he doesn’t have — except in Western Pleasure it’s your right hand, not left;
            14 and then I just had to stop the video and talk myself out of driving down to Alabama to inject Roy Moore with 20 cc of sodium pentobarbital.

            * ‘somebody help me!’ horse is saying.

            ** I mean seriously, this is obviously a fine horse that can do a walk-to-lope transitions, and it’s going through hell with this caveman on top. These are the horses I end up with after dumbasses like Roy Moore screw them up.

      That’s the beauty of the ‘theology’ of Moore-type Christians; if things go their way, it is the will of God, and if they don’t, it’s the work of the Devil.

    An automatic recount happens if the vote is within .5%. Jones won by 1.5%, so no recount. Apparently Moore can pay for a recount himself. That would be a waste of millions of dollars and I’m sure he knows that. I doubt he has the dosh anyway.

      What’s really cool is that the write ins, which are surely nearly all “anybody but Moore” republicans, are more than the margin. A seat the gop could have had with anyone even slightly less awful! But no, they picked probably the worst candidate legally eligible!
      So this probably ends Bannon as a force.

        It may well diminish Bannon’s stature as a guru to future candidates. But he’s still keyed into that hardcore, hard-right, MAGA-lovin’, Breitbart-readin’ base that constitutes about a quarter of the US electorate and half the Republican Party. They ain’t goin’ away quickly or quietly.

          No,not quickly, but I guess they will go quietly: there is quite a good correlation of that “… hard-right, MAGA-lovin’ Breitbart readin’ base” with age.

      Apparently this is only true for State races. This is a Federal race and there is no option for him even if he wishes to pay for it. More than 0.5%, no option, game over.

    NPR on my long drive through a moderate blizzard from work this evening: They also mentioned that Republicans can actually express some relief from Moores’ defeat since there would be difficulties ahead. What committees would he be on? Could they get him unseated?
    Many, many thanks are due to the African American activists who mounted a Trumpian Huuuuge get-out-the vote campaign to turn this thing around. It seemed improbable but wow, they did it. I would hug them if i could.

      Indeed. I’m hoping black women in particular will finally en masse claim what is rightfully theirs at all elections – a loud and strong voice at the table.

      However, like the youth vote, the black vote is fickle. Sometimes it’s there then….pooof….next election, it’s gone. We’ll see

    “I think the Senate Republicans are actually breathing a sigh of relief. ”

    They spent a lot of money (under the table) to defeat him. Senator Richard Shelby put his seat on the line by opposing him publicly. I doubt he’ll run again, there will be a firestorm if the does.

    Watching Moore ride away on his horse after he had voted, I thought he looked very awkward and not at all comfortable in the saddle. I’m no expert, but it was very noticeable that he doesn’t know how to ride at all. Sad.
