It was today in 1990 that Tim Berners-Lee published a formal proposal to build the Worldwide Web. It is such a recent part of history and yet so ubiquitous today that there is already a generation of young ones not too clear on whether there was a world without wifi and the Internet.
In 2014 today is when the Philae lander reached comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko after a 10 year journey to reach its destination.
It’s also the birthday today of Les McKeown (1955) of the Bay City Rollers, so here the group is singing Remember. Does anyone remember them?
In Poland today our four-footed friends are discussing conditions for discussions, which is very meta of them.

I remember the Bay City Rollers too. A lot of my friends were crazy for them, but I was more a BeeGees kind of girl.

The World Wide Web? How can something with an abbreviation that is three times longer than the words ever succeed?
I remember when millions of men and women were represented by strong unions.
I remember back in the ’80s one of our newly hired engineers demonstrated digital connectivity by dialing up the computer at his alma mater and allowing us to listen to the bleeps coming back over the line. He announced that soon we’d all be connected in a network where information would flow like current through a circuit board. DOS was pretty new at that point so it taxed your imagination.

Happened to be going thru Lapham’s Quarterly as this one is all about Alexander Hamilton. I would offer on page 35, the opening of Hamilton’s reply which detailed his affair with Maria Reynolds and subsequent blackmail scheme.
1797 – Philadelphia. Comparison of quality of writing and intellect with today’s politician is impossible to find.
