Friday animal news

Some uplifting stuff to end the week. First, Stephen Barnard’s oldest border collie, Bee, died last winter at 16, leaving just Deets. But he’s now got a new one (right in first photo below):

New member of the household. I’m considering naming him Hitch.

And a notice in an apartment, which I found on Facebook, and might well be genuine:

Normally I’m not that keen on dogs, but I make a big exception for Collies.

I burst out laughing at the line “Diane is a monster.” Too funny, thanks!

That’s the thanks she gets for installing toilet paper the right way (for cats).

Your new playmate is gorgeous, Stephen! I can’t think of a finer name than Hitch.

My one reservation was that it sounds Palinesque.

Stephen – how is Deets reacting to the puppy?

Not thrilled, but he’ll get over it. Puppies tend to be obnoxious to adult dogs because they don’t know the rules.

It’s like, “You’re letting him get away with THAT?”

I am very sorry about Bee. I am sure she had a great home. But, yay!! Puppy!

Congrats Stephen! I think two dogs is easier than one. Will the tan coloration on maybe-Hitch stay or does it fade with age? If I’m correct, Deets is only white and black. Are the two related?

Border Collies come in a variety of colorations and coats. Deets is a black and white rough coat. Hitch is a black tricolor rough coat. The tricolor trait is recessive, as is the rough-coat trait.

Sorry to hear about your loss, had a similar one at about the same time.

I hope the two get along well! He certainly looks like an adorable little guy.

As our remaining husky is going blind, we ended up adopting an older dog. Got lucky and found a retired sled dog that had some familiarity with blind team-mates and the two have become fast friends.
