OMG: Sabrina’s following me!

I don’t read my Twi**er feed, as it consists solely of links to posts on this site, but I do get daily notifications of new followers. Here’s a good one:

It’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch! Hart (now 38) was of course the star of the eponymous television show, which ran for seven years beginning in 1996. I must admit to watching it a few times, for Sabrina was cute and I loved the cheesy black cat puppet (a magical witch’s companion), which was supposed to be a real cat but looked nothing like one. Does anyone remember its name (no Googling!):

(Hint: The answer is here.)

I’m not quite sure why I’m being followed, for her Wikipedia bio says this: “Hart family is devout Christian and attends church every Sunday. But I’m surely as pleased as Sarah Silverman must have been when discovering (if she did discover) that she was being followed by Dan Dennett and Sam Harris. That makes Silverman the Official Atheist Comedian. ™

Call me cynical (“cynical!”) but I have a suspicion that this is a way of getting followers & is software-led, but cannot be sure. I will not cheat but admit the link to the picture as it appeared in my email in Outlook showed the cat’s name!

Really, Dom, must you crush a boy’s dreams?

OK we have to get you a date with Sarah Silverman!

I don’t have any connections to her, plus she’s relatively young. Still, I’d like that as much as holding a baby tiger and would gladly become Mr. Silverman (though she says she won’t marry because she doesn’t want to pass on what she considers her genetic propensity for depression).

PS we may ‘follow’ you, but do you know where you are going?! 🙂

Sheesh you guys, this sounds like an episode of Sabrina!

His name was Salem, and we named our cat Salem after him. Only our Salem is female! 🙂

I will admit that I only watched that show because of the “cat” 🙂

Keep reading and see how her career has been going since “Sabrina.” She needs all the publicity she can get!

I don’t remember the name of the cat, but I’m pretty sure the voice was Nick Bakay.

There are things on Sabrina that could totally have happened:her black cat Salem was a witch who had been turned into a talking household pet as a punishment for attempting worldwide domination.

    • Posted November 6, 2014 at 8:09 am | Permalink

Which is ironic because I’m pretty sure world domination is on every cat’s bucket list. Should have turned him into a dog.

I always felt like there should have been a Sabrina/Pinky & The Brain crossover.

I remember the awful cat pupet. They can never get the ears right with cat puppets. They got the personality right, though. I also seen so recall them using a real cat occasionally for shots of him waking or jumping or whatnot, but I may be misremembering that.

They used the puppet for all the speaking parts, but hired a proper stunt cat for all the action sequences that didn’t include dialogue.

Fair warning: Sometimes these people will mass unfollow people so it looks like they have a hight follower to following ratio. So prepare for heartbreak! Marketers are a cold and ruthless species.

I could imagine that a Christian who is open minded enough to play the role of a witch could also be open minded enough to be interested in evolution.

Sorry for the bad news but she (or her social media team) is following people to get more followers, see here

On Sept. 13 she was following 387 accounts, today about 32.400.

First they added 587 new followers per day (and she followed 469 accounts/day) for 36 days and afterwards 1240 new followers/day and she follows 862 accounts/day.
This is almost certainly manipulated with either automatic software or bought followers.

Yeah, probably marketing/PR, sadly. It may not be but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

      1) I work in advertising & media, although for one of the big agencies (there’s slightly less cowboying happening!).

      2) I’m also a musician in a band and have come across the whole “paying for followers” model. It’s absolute bollocks, please excuse my Anglo-Saxon!

How about Tim Minchin, Bill Maher and Julia Sweeney? They seem to have been more publicly open as atheists. For anyones interested there is a list of atheist comedians on Wiki:

On the subject of followers, the 30,000th follower of this blo^H^H^H website is only some 267 followers away.
Seems like a mere few months ago that ProfCC went through the 25k mark.
Without looking closely at the number, the 30k mark should be in within the week? And 32768 (2^15) in March? Give or take a bit.

I loved that show, especially Salem.

I’ve got a better OMG – I got a #FF from Linda Carter aka Wonder Woman a few months ago!

OMG Wonder Woman! I used to watch that show all the time as a kid. I’d be excited if she followed me too. I wonder if she’s an atheist.
