A kitten from nothing

Here: you can haz kitten to close out a long week. But first read about Stresemann’s Bristlefront two posts below, and if you feel so inclined, donate to save it (I’ve added a link).

Eat your heart our, Dr. Krauss! This video apparently shows Taiwanese magician 大支 曾 producing a lovely kitten out of thin air.  And it’s done for a good cause—to promote animal adoption. If anyone knows how this is done, weigh in below.

God can make the cosmos pretty
But only evolution can make a kitty.

His right arm is hollow, and he slides the kitty down through it.

The red poster behind him is in two parts. One part is considerably behind the other. The kitten was hidden behind the front part of the poster. He covered the action with his hand and reached back to lift up the kitten.

Now that you say that, it kind of jumps out at one. The poster is carefully bland there, too, so as to hide matching failures.

It’s obvious that his careful hand placement was concealing something. I’m kinda surprised he didn’t opt for a darker cat, tho, just to be safer.

Good call! On a 2-D video you can’t really tell that, but simple inference says that has to be what happened.

I immediately thought the same thing: it had to be a trick employing the poster as you have described.

Except that…when I watch it his right hand, the one that pulls the cat out, moves freely up and down IN FRONT of the poster, both before he does the trick and as he readies his hands moving them. They move in front of the poster lower than the line from which he draws up the cat. If a portion of the poster were actually closer to the camera, hiding the cat and his hand as he pulls out the cat, I would expect his right hand to disappear behind it during all his movements leading to the appearance of the cat.

So, I still can’t see exactly how he’s doing it.

Yeah, it’s one of the simpler tricks – and yet revealing it will get you banned from any number of magical societies.

Heck, that’s not magic. My 2 kittehs appear out of nowhere all the time…

He’s lifting the cat from a box behind the picture of the smiling woman.

Seriously? You’re trying to hijack a post on cat adoption and magicians to push a blogpost linked to on a website hosted by people incapable of even understanding the article they linked to?

      Stay classy, dude.

What a classy guy!. From his “website”:

“But I have another birthday, a birthday of an entirely different sort! Thirty some years ago I had a new birth when Jesus Christ came into my life and gave me spiritual birth.”

His spirit was born and his brain died!

I just went outside and gathered some twigs.

I then took the twigs and arranged them to spell out my name on the sidewalk.

      The message delivered is clear.

      Intelligent Design confirmed !

      Evolution falsified !

That was pertty good, but I am far more impressed when its the cat performing the trick. So without further delay, our one and only Maru.

    Explain that!

Hilarious! It’s just another box to Maru, and he’s a pro at working with boxes.

What’s fascinating about the first magic trick is how the kitteh was kept under control till its unveiling! There could have been an accomplice. Kitteh could have been in a well-camouflaged box or bag in front of or behind the poster. Or maybe being held behind the poster by the scruff of the neck. Then a slidey platform/drawer behind the poster may have been quickly pushed out while the magician’s hand was blocking our view. 😀

Mr Mistoffelees, the original Conjuring Cat from the musical Cats (and prior to that the TS Elliot book).

“And not long ago this phenomenal cat
produced seven kittens right out of a hat.”

The man and woman behind the window appear to be accomplices. Try watching the video only focusing on the people behind the magician. Do not look at the magician or the cat. The woman seemed to be crouching down behind the poster and her head rises once he has the cat. She then looks around and moves to the left.

I watched this video several times and it is almost certainly a digital effect. There is a layer on top of the cat. This can be done even with a program like photoshop.

At 0:08 there is a lighter brown square on the poster just barely under and behind his right hand. I think that is a hole which he then conceals with his left hand. There also seems to be some movement at that square (hole) around 0:17 and after, as the kitteh is being revealed, shadowed color changes that coincide with the movement of the girl.

I come to the conclusion that this of course is a miracle since I cant explain it. I will right away look for support för that explanation in some old scripture. The older the better 🙂

I believe that this trick is explained in carvings on the top of the #54 trilithon at Stonehenge. But you’ll need to make your own rubbings to read it.
