The grace of a moggie

Another awesome cat video from Japan.

In less than a second, this tabby leaps into the air and catches a toy bear.  In slow motion, the grace is revealed: the cat catches the bear with its front paws, transfers the toy to its mouth, twists around using its tail as counterbalance, and then retracts its rear feet to land on its forelegs.

Can any d-g (or Nureyev, for that matter) produce such a lovely leap? (That’s a rhetorical question.)

I love how it nonchalantly strolls back into shot afterwards, sitting down to await a treat. Brilliant. And I’m a dog kinda guy! (Ps; the slow mo is fantastic to watch, such grace!)

I’m fairly certain it’s even more intriguing. Isn’t the cat fetching the toy, dropping it then waiting for the mechanical human to repeat the exercise?

As awesome as that is (and like mavisbeard I’m a dog kinda guy too) it would have been cool if they’d had continued the slo-mo until it had landed. Because that looks pretty damn graceful too.

I like how in slow motion you can see how (s)he bites the thing several times to make sure it doesn’t struggle during the reentry phase.

    Fun, and elegant.

My brother’s Bengal cats leap to the top of the curtain rods from the floor — about 7-feet vertical (6.2-ish m) no problem, from a standing/squatting (non-running) start. It blows your mind the first time you see it.

Rhetorical or not, you’ve pushed my buttons and I must respond.

    PNB’s Company Class – Jumping

Graceful leaps come naturally to cats, who evolved catching airborne prey. Humans did not, and must train from childhood to do this. To me that makes it all the more impressive.

The two things that have me prefer cats over dogs are the former’s grace and dignity and the latter’s smell.

Referring to the animal of course and not the box.
I love cats but can’t have one due to allergies. I have noticed, since I no longer have a cat, an interesting sensory phenomenon in that people who have cats somehow can’t smell them. Dude, they stink wayyyy worse than dogs.
