True facts about the chameleon

Zefrank1 has posted yet another in his series of “true facts” nature videos, which always combine science and lulz in a felicitious way; and I find the voice-over mesmerizing. For your delectation, the chameleon:

Well, ectothermic anyway. Or is it poikilothermic? Something like “cold-blooded”, not that that term is accurate.
I nearly called them exothermic, which would have been a blast. (Downloading alternative distributions to trial – network is too choked to open more than 1 site at a time.)

So, assuming that the color changing isn’t an adaptation formed in a bygone era when sad clown conventions were more common, what drove the evolution of it?

This was hilarious – hahahah – little spy eye. Chameleons are amazing critters. I did have one successful batch of Blue Ambanja panther chameleon hatchlings…cutest fricking things in the world…baby shamaylons. If I got back into keeping and breeding reptiles, I would probably start with chameleons, even though they can be tricky to keep. I had a ficus tree over a plastic utility sink with a bucket under the drain and a plant hanger with a slow-drip water container above the ficus tree…add high quality uv/heat lamps and you’re good to go. Oh..don’t forget to breed madagascar hissing cockroaches (they love to eat the soft babies), walking stick bugs, wax worms, and stinky crickets. It’s so funny when they are trying to pretend they are just leaves blowing in the wind “don’t mind me…just a leaf….see…I’m rocking back and forth…what eye?”

Holy crap, I haven’t heard ZeFrank’s name for maybe a decade. That guy was pretty funny then, but I assumed he flamed out before Youtube got big. Apparently he only got more awesome. Now I will have to watch all of these videos tonight.

I didn’t know who he was until the recent TFAT Angler Fish – which is still my favorite. “To the female angler fish a human male is a loud, needy, unnecessarily complicated pair of gonads.”
