I believe foxes are very shy creatures,& you’re extremely fortunate to have been able to get this beautiful shot. I’m 72 & have lived almost half my life in rural areas, yet have spotted only 2 foxes in the wild.

If they overpopulate, they develop diseases and start to die off. Living in rural Sonoma Co. I had ample opportunity to observe them and their ways, interesting little creatures that they are. They found us interesting as well; one of their “observation points” overlooked my chicken yard and garden. They picnicked there frequently. They quickly become accustomed to humans.

I’m in my fourth year of studying the behavior of the gray fox. You wrote, “They found us interesting as well.” That’s so true and once they get used to you being in their territory, they will just go about their business like hunting and not pay too much attention to you. Happy foxing.
